Work Like A Lion

There’s a common misconception many business leaders buy into: success is a result of grinding endlessly. Long hours at the office. Answering emails late into the night. Staying busy just to feel productive.
But here’s a truth worth chewing on: we aren't built to work that way. Think, and work, like a lion. Lions don’t hunt all day.
Lions are apex predators. Kings of the savanna. But they spend most of their day resting, watching, conserving energy. And when they work—when they hunt—they go all in. It's a short, powerful burst of energy with full focus and intention. And then they rest again. No guilt. No wasted movement.
As business leaders, we’d do well to take a page from their playbook.
Sprints > Slogs
Great leaders work in sprints. When it's time to execute, they show up fully. Clear goals. Clean focus. Tight timeframes. High output. Then, they step away. They rest. Reflect. Think. They recalibrate their priorities before the next sprint begins.
Compare that to what many of us do—fill time with activity. Long meetings. Endless check-ins. Mindless inbox surfing. We confuse busyness with effectiveness. But one hour of deep, intentional work can outperform an entire day of distracted hustle.
Quantity ≠ Quality
Just because you’re working more doesn’t mean you’re doing better. In fact, it’s usually the opposite. Tired minds make poor decisions. Exhausted leaders create anxious teams. A drained leader might be in the room, but they aren’t truly present—not for strategy, not for coaching, not for vision.
High performance isn’t about running longer. It’s about running smarter. Strategically. Like a lion.
Build the Rhythm
This mindset requires a shift in how you structure your days and your business. Build sprint-and-recover rhythms into your calendar:
-
Block deep work time.
-
Eliminate the fluff.
-
Take real breaks (and yes, that might mean leaving the office at 3 PM sometimes).
-
Rest without guilt.
-
Lead by example—so your team learns that thoughtful intensity beats aimless hours.
Final Thought
Your business doesn’t need more of your time. It needs more of your focus, clarity, and leadership. Show up like a lion. Sprint with power. Rest without apology. Repeat.
You’ll get more done—and live better doing it.
